Planning Housing Adaptations to meet Clinical Functional Needs
Part 1 : Assessing Client and Environment

Christine is an NZ trained OT with over 30 years work experience in both NZ and the UK. She has worked part time as a Community OT for the past 15 years, where housing modifications are an acknowledged area of her expertise.
This one day course is intended for those new to prescribing home adaptations, or those wishing to improve their skills in this area.
It is designed to be a perquisite for subsequent courses which will focus on measuring the existing environment, planning the adaptation and common environmental solutions.
Occupational Therapists attending this course will:
- Be able to describe the common functional consequences of major disabling conditions most likely to require home adaptations
- Develop key report writing skills for funding applications
- Reflect on the main areas to assess a typical home environment
- Be introduced to basic building terminology as it relates to home adaptations
